Description
The Dolphin Fountain, built around 1820, features a later 19th-century pumphouse and is likely designed by Coade. It is constructed from limestone ashlar and includes a lead-lined basin. At the back, there is a brick pumphouse with a glazed roof. The fountain consists of a rusticated square block with a cornice, topped by a stepped pedestal that supports a two-handled Greek urn. In front of the fountain is a semi-circular basin with fluted sides, where water flows from the mouth of a cast bronze dolphin head set in a framed circular opening. Above this is a rectangular cast bronze plaque that depicts a Bacchanalian scene featuring Satyrs sacrificing a ram on a rustic altar. The fountain is enclosed by cast iron railings with mushroom-shaped stops.
