Description
Sundial Cottage is a house that dates back to the 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-18th century, and further changes in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble, featuring ashlar quoins and dressings, and has a concrete tiled roof with stone-coped gables. The house has two gable ashlar stacks, with the left one having paired shafts and a cornice.
The building is two stories high and has a three-bay front. The central entrance features a 20th-century six-panel door, which is framed by a contemporary pilastered and pedimented doorcase. On either side of the door are single 19th-century tripartite plain sash windows, and on the first floor, there are two similar windows.
Prominently displayed in the center of the front is a repositioned ashlar sundial, which has scrolls on all four sides, with side scrolls that contain the date 1719. The roof features two gabled dormers, each with two-light casements that have rendered cheeks.
