Description
The Red Lion Inn is a public house that dates from the late 17th century and was refronted in 1795, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with ashlar quoins and features a Collyweston slate roof, along with single red brick ridge and gable stacks. The building has a two-storey, four-bay front, which includes an off-centre 20th-century door. To the left of the door, there is a pair of three-light glazing bar casements, and to the right, there is a single three-light glazing bar casement. On the first floor, there are three smaller similar windows. All openings are topped with timber lintels. Above the central window, there is an ashlar datestone inscribed with the initials "RF" and the date "1795". To the right of the main building, there is a single-storey, single-bay service block with a pantile roof, which contains a single three-light window. Beyond this service block is a longer single-storey range, also with a pantiled roof, which now has two small fixed lights but originally featured a central door that is now blocked, with single breathers on either side. The interior retains chamfered girders.
