Description
Hawthorpe Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with alterations and extensions made in the late 19th century. It is constructed from coursed and squared limestone rubble, featuring ashlar quoins and dressings, and has pantile roofs with raised stone coped gables on the original 17th-century block. The building has a T-plan layout, with the cross wing being the original section of the house.
The farmhouse is two storeys high with a garret and has a four-bay front. The entrance is off-centre, featuring a half-glazed door set within a 19th-century, four-centred arched moulded stone surround. To the left of the door are two two-light windows, while to the right is a three-light window with timber mullions. On the first floor, there are three two-light windows, with a taller similar window to the right. In the gable, there is an additional two-light window. All windows are plain casements and have deep plain ashlar lintels with incised keyblocks.
To the left of the main farmhouse is a single-storey, single-bay service block from the 19th century. One of the ashlar chimney stacks bears the inscription "WAM 1700."
