Description
Nos 18 and 19 on High Street are a pair of buildings dating from the mid-18th century. They are three storeys tall and constructed in ashlar stone. The roof is made of stone slate and features three hipped dormers that are concealed behind a parapet. The buildings have block rusticated quoins and a band running between the first and second floors. There is a moulded cornice and a six-panel parapet with triple keystones. The windows are double-hung sashes with glazing bars, although some are broken. The shop fronts, which date from the 19th century, include six composite fluted columns and remnants of a moulded frieze and cornice above the passage entry. The condition of the buildings was reported to be very poor as of July 1971. Nos 14 to 31, along with the Public Library, form a group with these buildings.
