Description
This is a free school built in 1835. It is constructed of red brick with ashlar dressings, and has a hipped slate roof. The building is single-storied and has six bays, with a single-bay lean-to extension to the right and a single-bay section with a flat roof and parapet to the left. The central bay projects slightly and is topped with an ashlar pediment bearing a plaque inscribed "Free School 1835". The outer bays also project slightly and feature shaped coped gables. The central bay has a giant order blind semi-circular arch framing a semi-circular sash window with radiating glazing bars to the head. Flanking this are two smaller, similar sashes, and further to the left and right, in the outer bays, are single smaller giant order arches, each containing a similar sash window. A single small decorative panel is set in the apex of each of these bays. To the left of the main section is a flat-roofed bay with a smaller sash window, and to the right, in the lean-to bay, is a doorway with a partially glazed double door and a fanlight with glazing bars.
