Description

The Crown and Woolpack Public House, which also incorporates the Wisbech Standard Offices and Shop, is a public house that dates from the late 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of colourwashed brick, with some areas rendered and features painted ashlar dressings. The building has a slate roof, two gable stacks, and a single ridge stack. The eaves are adorned with wooden modillions, and the gables are rendered and coped.

The structure is two and a half storeys tall and consists of five bays, with the central bay slightly projecting. The central doorway features a panelled door with a traceried overlight and a panelled reveal, supported by Doric half columns, an entablature, and a pediment. To the left of the doorway, there are single plain sash windows with raised keystones, alongside a blocked doorway that has an inserted glazing bar casement. On the right side of the central doorway is an early 20th-century shop front, which includes a deep-set central doorway with a part-glazed double door and overlight, flanked by two single shop windows with two lights each. Above the shop front is a continuous entablature that leads into a part-blocked carriage archway on the far right, which retains some remains of a single impost and jamb. Above the shop front, there are five glazing bar sash windows, with five smaller similar sashes above, all featuring serpentine lintels and raised keystones.
