Description

A terrace of three houses located on Market Street, built around 1800 with alterations in the 20th century. The houses are constructed of red brick with a slate roof, featuring stone coped gables and four substantial 19th-century chimney stacks. Two gable stacks and two ridge stacks are present; the right-hand gable stack is external and has two flues meeting beneath a segmental arch. A projecting modillion eaves cornice runs along the building.

The terrace is three storeys high, plus a basement and attic, and extends across nine bays. The basement level has two paired 20th-century casements with concrete lintels to the right, alongside a single glazing bar fixed light, a single glazing bar Yorkshire sash with two fixed lights, all with flush wedge lintels. The ground floor features two glazing bar sashes, followed by a doorway raised eight steps with an ornate panelled door, a traceried fanlight, a moulded architrave with ribbed curved colonnettes, and two more glazing bar sashes. A further doorway follows the same style as the first, then two glazing bar sashes and a final doorway with a plain panelled door and matching surround. All doorways are accessed via eight steps and have a decorative wrought iron handrail. The first floor mirrors the ground floor with nine glazing bar sashes. The top floor has nine smaller glazing bar sashes. All windows have flush wedge lintels. Two dormers are located in the attic, each with a single glazing bar sash. The stairs are lit by tall, semi-circular headed glazing bar lights.

Internally, the houses retain a stick baluster dogleg staircase, reeded architraves with paterae in the angles, and a hall with three semi-circular headed recesses.
