Description
The Vicarage is an early 19th-century house situated on Church Street. It is a two-storey building with two slightly lower wings that have a similar construction style. The exterior is cement-rendered and features a central section with renovated stone quoins, a band between the storeys, and a moulded plinth. There are five hung sash windows with glazing bars and rusticated lintels, along with four windows on the ground floor. A notable feature is the projecting porch designed in the Roman Ionic style, which includes an ornamental frieze, fluted columns, and an open pediment. The eaves are adorned with a modillion cornice. The left wing has two ground floor windows with rusticated lintels, while the upper windows are fitted with rectangular wrought iron balconies and modern glazing. The right wing also has two windows on each floor, with later glazing. Both wings are set back, with the left wing being slightly more recessed. The Vicarage is part of a group that includes Gamlyn's Almshouses, Nos 3 to 8, the former stables to No 3, and the garden wall to the south of No 4.
