Description

Whaplode Manor House is a small country house built in 1737. It is constructed of red brick with painted ashlar dressings and features hipped slate roofs with dogtooth eaves and three lateral stacks. The house has two storeys and an attic, with a five-bay south front that includes a first-floor band. The central doorway is framed by a columnar porch with an entablature and an inner partially glazed door. On either side of the doorway, there are two glazing bar sashes, with five glazing bar sashes above; all windows have flush wedge lintels and painted ashlar keystones. The roof has single hipped dormers with plain sashes, flanking a central open pediment supported by a pair of consoles, which contains a keyed oculus.

The west front also has five bays, featuring a central doorway with an overlight and a panelled door. To the right, there are two blocked windows, and to the left, there is one blocked window with a glazing bar sash beyond. Above the doorway is a single glazing bar sash, with two blocked openings to the right and another glazing bar sash to the left. All windows on this front also have flush wedge lintels and painted ashlar keystones, with the left ground floor window inscribed 'WM 1737'.

Inside, there is a truncated two-flight return staircase with moulded bannisters and handrail, dating from around 1737. One room in the south-east corner features a moulded cornice.
