Description

Croxby Hall is a small country house built around 1730. It is constructed of red brick with ashlar dressings and features a hipped slate roof with moulded wooden eaves and two large stacks at the rear. The building has a square plan and is two stories high with an attic. The east front has three bays, a first-floor brick band, and a brick band at the eaves.

The central doorway is framed by a 19th-century brick porch with a hipped roof and features a six-panelled door, flanked by narrow fixed lights. Inside, there is a 20th-century glazed door with glazing bars and a rectangular overlight with margin lights. The doorway is flanked by single glazing bar sashes, with three more above, all adorned with moulded ashlar keystones.

On the south side, there is a central partially glazed door with a fixed glazing bar window above. To the right, there are glazed French windows, and to the left, a glazing bar sash with three glazing bar sashes above. All openings have moulded ashlar keystones, and there are two dormers with sliding sashes.

The hall and adjacent rooms feature fielded oak panelling from around 1730 and fine moulded cornices decorated with modillions, egg and dart motifs, and flower heads. A notable feature is the fine oak staircase with three flights, slender balusters, one twisted and two columnar with small knops, carved tread ends, and a moulded handrail. The flanking rooms also have plain bolection moulded marble fireplaces.
