Description

Whaplode House is a late 18th-century house with later 19th-century alterations. It is constructed of red brick with ashlar dressings and has a slate roof with modillioned ashlar eaves, a parapet, and two gable stacks. The house is two storeys and an attic, with a three-bay front. The central doorway features an open modillioned pediment, dosserets, fluted pilasters, a semicircular head with a keystone and imposts, a traceried fanlight, a panelled reveal, and a door. Single-glazing-bar sash windows flank the doorway, and three more glazing-bar sashes are above, all with rusticated wedge lintels and keystones. Three segmental-headed dormers contain glazing-bar sashes. Inside, there is a plain contemporary staircase with square balusters and a moulded rail. One room contains pilastered, elliptical arched alcoves either side of the fireplace, which has a moulded architrave.
