Description
The Elloe Stone is a grave marker dating from around 950 to 1100, with a later addition in 1911. It is made of ragstone and features an unpierced, damaged wheel head adorned with weathered interlace decoration. The stone has a tapering shaft with rolled corners, also decorated with weathered interlace, and is supported by a rectangular plinth that shares the same decorative style. A 20th-century base is inscribed with the following text: "The Elloe Stone. Erected in Anglo Saxon times to indicate the place of meeting of the Hundred of Elloe courts. Presented to the Moulton Parish Council by F. Dring Esq. and mounted here by public inscription of June 22nd 1911 the day of the Coronation of King George."
