Description

The Well Head is a drinking fountain built in 1867. It is constructed from ashlar stone and features a diamond patterned slate roof. The fountain has an octagonal shape and stands on a two-step raised octagonal platform. Each corner is adorned with a column made of pink ashlar, which has a base and capital that support eight flattened arches with staff moulds, topped by a cornice. The frieze includes an inscription in Gothic lettering that reads 'In memory of John and Susan Reeve ...., 1867'. The roof is also octagonal, featuring lead ridge ribs and is topped with an ornate iron cross. Beneath this canopy, there is an iron and ashlar pump with a pyramidal top and an octagonal basin.
