Description
The George Hotel is a public house built in the mid-18th century and early 19th century. It features coursed limestone rubble and ashlar with a slate roof that has ashlar coped gables. The building has two brick gable stacks, an ashlar plinth, raised quoins, and bands at the first and second floors. It is three bays wide and two and a half storeys tall. The central doorway is framed by a rusticated ashlar surround topped with a broken pediment that displays a coat of arms. The entrance has double half-glazed doors with an overlight and a 19th-century lamp on an iron bracket. On either side of the doorway are single glazing bar sashes, and above are three similar windows, all featuring flush ashlar lintels with raised keystones. The top floor, which was added in the early 19th century, has three small glazing bar sashes and is faced with ashlar.
