Description

Nos. 2 to 10 Watergate are a range of mid-18th century buildings located on the north side of Watergate. These three-storey structures are built from red brick and feature pantile roofs and a stone plinth. No. 2 houses the Watergate Yard Public House, while No. 10, which is separate but similar, has two windows on the top storey that are lower than those of the other buildings and feature sliding sashes. There is a round-arched passage entry, and Nos. 4 to 8 have a diagonal-set brick eaves cornice. The top floor windows have sliding sashes with glazing bars, and there are brick bands between the storeys. The range includes seven windows, with some hung sashes and ground floor windows that are boarded up. No. 10 also has a small 19th-century shop window. No. 2 has been cement rendered and features one window without glazing bars. There is a flat-arched yard entry, and the right-hand section has a parapet with two windows. The band between the first and second storeys is intact, and there is a moulded band between the ground and first floors above modern windows. The right section is included as part of the group, which collectively forms a significant architectural feature.
