Description
Stonehaven and the attached cottage are a pair of cottages built around 1835 by W A Nicholson. They are constructed from coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings and feature a slate roof with ashlar coped gables, moulded kneelers, and finials. The cottages have a chamfered white brick and ashlar plinth, as well as flush ashlar quoins. There are two square Tudor style stacks made of white brick and ashlar.
The buildings are single storey plus attic, with a recessed centre that includes a four-centred arched ashlar doorway with a four-panel door and a two-light window to the right. To the left, there is a projecting single storey gabled wing with a three-light window beneath a dripmould. To the right, a gabled cross wing projects, featuring a three-light window below and a two-light window above, both also under dripmoulds. A wooden verandah supported by posts with carved brackets covers the centre, and above it is a single two-light ashlar gabled dormer with ball finials. All windows are glazing bar casements set in recessed and chamfered ashlar surrounds. This building is part of the complete estate village created by the Chaplin family of Blankney Hall.
