Description
Jews Court is a house that has been converted into a shop, dating back to around 1170. It underwent alterations in the 18th century and was refenestrated in the early 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed of coursed rubble and dressed stone, topped with a plain tile roof, and features two brick gable stacks and a side wall stack. It has a deep plinth with tile coping and stands three storeys high, plus attics, with three bays.
The central entrance consists of a half-glazed two-leaf door from the 20th century. To the left is a late 18th-century plank door and a glazing bar shop window, both set under a common wooden lintel. On the right, there is a recess containing a late 18th-century beaded plank door and another glazing bar shop window, also under a common wooden lintel. Each floor above has two three-light sliding sash windows, all with wooden lintels. Additionally, there are two segment-headed dormers above, each with two-light casements.
The interior has not been inspected. This building is significant as an early medieval domestic structure and is noted to have been used as a synagogue at one time.
