Description
The Corner House is an 18th-century, two-storey house located on the east side of Upgate. It features a stucco exterior with rusticated quoins, a plinth, a cornice, and a recessed panelled parapet. The roof is hipped at the corner and covered with pantiles.
On the Upgate front, there are two two-storey, three-light bow windows that do not have glazing bars. The central entrance is framed by a pediment doorcase, which has a triangular pediment supported by two modern cut brackets that arch over the semi-circular head of the doorway. The entrance includes panelled reveals and soffit, along with a four-panelled door topped by a fanlight.
On the Chequergate front, the house has two windows on each floor, featuring modern sashes set in wide wooden cases. There is an off-centre doorway to the left, which has a wooden case with reeded pilasters and a simple entablature.
The Corner House forms a visual group with the nearby Parish Church and is part of a group with Nos. 2 and 4 Chequergate.
