Description

This is an early 19th century pair of two-storey brick houses located on the north side of Westgate. They have shallow-pitched slate roofs. Each house has two three-light hung sash windows on both floors, with glazing bars. The windows are set in wide wooden frames that sit flush with the brickwork and have plaster lintels, keystones, and projecting sills. A blocked window is positioned centrally between the two houses, above a semi-circular-headed gateway featuring a keystone and impost molding. An insurance plaque is present. The doorcases are formed of two pilasters supporting a shallow triangular pediment that breaks over the semi-circular head of the doorway, which is accessed by three stone steps. The door itself is panelled with six panels and has a semi-circular radiating fanlight above. Numbers 44 to 66 (even) form a group with numbers 82 and 84.
