Description

No. 58 Westgate is an 18th-century, three-storey brick house featuring a shallow pitched roof made of Westmorland slate. The building has five windows on each storey, which are hung sashes with glazing bars set in wooden cases. The windows have shallow reveals, flat arched brick heads, and plain cills. The entrance, which was originally located in the centre of the front, has been moved to the east side of a rear extension and features a Georgian pedimented doorcase. There are wide gateways at both ends of the front, with crick piers that have stone rustications and ball finials. At the east end, there is a low linking wall with a pedestrian gateway. This property is part of a group that includes Nos. 44 to 66 (even) and Nos. 82 and 84.
