Description
Westgate House is a late 18th-century, double bow-fronted, three-storey house constructed of yellow brick. It features three windows and has a flattened mansard roof made of Westmorland slate, which includes three dormers. The basement is made of vermiculated rusticated stone. The ground floor is supported by columns that hold up the bays, and a curved double staircase with iron handrails leads to the central entrance located at the first-floor level. Above the panelled door is a wide segmental fanlight flanked by two half-length sidelights. Each floor has five-light windows in the bays below, with flat-arched heads on the first and second floors and iron balconies on the ground floor. There is also a former stable block, which has a gable end facing Westgate, consisting of two storeys in brick and topped with a steep pantile roof, dating from the 18th century. This stable block is included as part of the group with Westgate House. Westgate House, along with Nos 25, 29 to 31 (odd), The Limes, and Nos 43 to 47 (odd), forms a cohesive architectural group.
