Description
No. 15 (White and Son) is a shop located on the east side of Market Place in Alford. It dates from the early 19th century and features late 19th-century shop fronts along with some 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed of red brick and has a pantile roof with a single ridge stack. It is designed in an L-plan, with a chamfered angle at the corner of Market Place and High Street.
The structure is three storeys tall and has seven bays arranged in a pattern of four, one, and two around the corner. The doorway at the angle is half glazed and has a plain overlight above it. To the left of the doorway is a single canted bay shop window, and to the right is a similar double window with a smaller flush window beyond. All these windows are framed by wooden pilasters and a moulded cornice. To the left, there are two additional doorways; one features a plain panelled door and the other is half glazed, each accompanied by a canted window to the left, also with wooden pilasters and cornice.
On the first floor, there are seven glazing bar sashes, five of which have segmental heads and two with flat heads. The second floor features seven fixed glazing bar lights situated at the eaves.
