Description
The Buttercross, formerly known as the Market Cross, is a market cross dating from the 15th century. It is constructed from ashlar and features an octagonal shaft that rises to an octagonal top adorned with shields on the panels. The top is surmounted by a 20th-century cross. The base of the structure has stop-chamfers and rests on a rectangular plinth that displays worn shields and quatrefoils on its panels. The Buttercross is elevated on five tall steps.
