Description

Hubbert's Bridge Farmhouse is a house dating from circa 1750-1770, with alterations made in the early 19th century. The house is constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond, with tuck pointing, and features painted ashlar dressings. The roof is of Welsh slate with stone-coped gables and two gable stacks. It is arranged in an L-plan with a five-bay front, arranged 2:1:2, the central bay slightly projected and with a separate gable. The front elevation has a plinth, a band at the first floor level, and a wooden cornice with modillions. The central entrance is a four-panel door with an overlight, panelled reveals, and an early 19th-century pilastered doorcase with an open pediment. It is flanked by pairs of lengthened tall, glazing-bar sash windows. Above, the first floor has five glazing-bar sash windows, and the second floor five smaller similar windows. All windows have segmental heads, and stepped keyblocks. A two-storey service wing is situated at the rear. The interior features an early 19th-century single-flight swept staircase rising three storeys, with stick balusters, a carved open string, and a circular newel. Early 19th-century joinery is present on the ground floor, including plain pilasters to a through-room opening. The principal rooms on the first floor retain 18th-century shutters, window seats, six-panel fireplace cupboard doors and overpanels. One room also contains an eared fireplace surround. The second floor has an 18th-century small eared fireplace surround.
