Description

No. 22 Wide Bargate is an office building of 1795, designed by Francis Cacter of London for Samuel Tunnard as an extension to his adjacent house. The building is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, with a half-hipped slate roof and lead dressings. A single wall stack is present.

The two-storey, three-bay front has a low stone plinth, sill bands to both floors, and a plain fascia concealing the wall head gutter at the eaves. A pair of double-panelled doors are set within a broad pilastered surround, topped by a fan-traceried overlight. The entrance is raised three steps above street level. Flanking the entrance doors are tripartite glazing bar sashes with traceried segmental-headed lights, set within segmental-headed shallow recesses. The first floor has three glazing bar sashes, each with a flat rubbed brick arch above. The interior was not inspected during listing.
