Description

The Serpent Vase in the Chinese Garden is a garden ornament dating from the late 19th century, likely of Chinese or Japanese origin. It is a bronze vase shaped like a lotus, with a serpent entwined around it. The vase stands on a hexagonal base with three tiers, featuring mask heads at each corner of the lowest tier. The base is made of stone, with some parts smoothly dressed and others rough-hewn. This vase is part of a collection of ornaments gathered for the garden by the first Lord Crawshaw around 1890 to 1900.
