Description
This is a garden ornament known as a Chinese Shishi with a ball and parasol, located in the Chinese garden of Whatton House. It dates from the late 19th century and is of Chinese or Japanese origin. The ornament is a bronze beast with a scrolled mane and tail, standing with one foot on a hollow ball made of bronze leaves. It has a rough-hewn stone base and is topped with a red-painted parasol. This feature is part of the Chinese garden designed by the first Lord Crawshaw around 1890 to 1900.
