LONG WHATTON WHATTON HOUSE GROUNDS SK 42 SE 5/219 Chinese Shishi with ball and parasol, in Chinese garden GV II

Garden ornament. Late C19. Of Chinese or Japanese origin. Bronze beast with scrolled mane and tail, one foot resting on a hollow ball of bronze leaves. Rough-hewn stone base. Red-painted parasol above. Feature of Chinese garden laid out by the first Lord Crawshaw c1890-1900. (Country Life, February 21st 1985 p.456-7.)
