Description
This pair of Buddhist memorial lamps, dating from the late 19th century, serves as a decorative feature in a Chinese garden. They are of Chinese or Japanese origin and made of bronze. Each lamp consists of a post made from four stakes bound together with ivy trails, supporting a square lantern topped with a pyramid roof that mimics straw. The sides of the lanterns are adorned with pierced metal grilles, and each lantern features a crescent moon on one side. The lamp on the east side has an owl finial. These lamps are part of a Chinese garden designed by the first Lord Crawshaw around 1890 to 1900.
