Description

No. 20 Clements Gate is a house dating from the 17th century, with an attached former outbuilding from the 18th to early 19th century. The property underwent refurbishment and extension in the 1970s and 1980s. It features a timber frame with diagonal braces, a front that has 19th to 20th century brick infill, and a left gable with rendered infill. The base is made of rubble stone, topped with a 20th century tiled roof. There are two chimneys: a 19th century brick chimney at the rear left corner and a 20th century brick chimney on the right.

The house has two storeys and an attic, arranged in two bays. The left bay is blind from the front but includes a 20th century barred wooden casement window and a brick porch on the left gable end. The right bay features a 20th century rectangular bay window on the ground floor, a three-light horizontal sash window above, and a 20th century barred wooden window in a blocked doorway to the left. To the right is the former outbuilding, constructed of brick on a stone base, also with a 20th century tiled roof. This section has a blocked doorway at the front with a segmental head and a carved terracotta panel above, decorated with foliage scrolls and a blank shield. There are also 20th century extensions at the rear.
