Description
Number 2, known as Cross Farmhouse, is a house dating from around 1700, featuring early 19th-century windows at the front. The house is constructed of chequer brick on a rubble stone base, topped with a plain blue tile roof, brick gable copings, and small rebuilt brick chimneys. It has a double pile design, with two storeys, an attic, and a cellar, arranged in two bays. The exterior includes string courses with offset dentil corbels.
The front elevation has a gable on the left side, which features a two-light horizontal sash window in the attic and two bays of early 19th-century boxed four-pane sash windows. All windows have painted wedge lintels. The central entrance consists of a six-panelled door with a top light, set in a rusticated doorcase that has a cornice above a voussoir head. This doorcase is made of painted stone and resembles one found at Old Hall Farmhouse in Grimes Gate.
On the right side of the house, there are two gabled bays, with string courses that step up over staircase windows in between. The upper stair window is blocked but retains a flat brick arch, as does the lower window. The left bay has a two-light attic casement and a blocked window below, while the right bay features a three-light barred wooden casement on the main floors and a blocked attic window. The cellar has a boarded door and a window to the left.
In front of the house, there is a small garden enclosed by brick walls on the sides and brick dwarf walls with wrought iron railings at the front. The railings are adorned with waved spike finials. The central gate matches the railings but includes an oval panel with honeysuckle motifs at the base. The supporting standards are also decorated and feature honeysuckle finials.
