Description
Two houses, located on Clements Gate in Long Whatton, date back to the 15th and 16th centuries, with two original cruck trusses remaining. They were largely rebuilt during the 18th and 19th centuries, with alterations made in the 20th century. Number 1 is roughcast with a rubble stone base and a thatched roof, featuring a coped gable on the left side and rebuilt brick chimneys. It has one and a half storeys and two bays, displaying three-light horizontal sash windows on the ground floor and a two-light horizontal sash window in an eyebrow dormer to the right. A recessed 20th-century door is centrally located. The ground floor window openings have flat rendered heads. Number 3 is rendered with a rubble stone base and a 20th-century tiled roof. It is one storey and attic, with two small bays. It has two-light horizontal sash windows on the ground floor to the left, and in gabled eaves-line dormers. A 20th-century canted bay window is situated to the right, with a central 20th-century door. The interior contains cruck trusses within the walls separating the houses, and centrally positioned within Number 1. Curved roof wind-braces are visible, along with heavy joists and a cross beam in the left bay. All timbers in Number 3 have been renewed, except for the spine beam, which retains original features.
