Description
No. 16 Hall Gate is a small house dating from the 17th century, which was refurbished between 1968 and 1969. It features a timber frame with short diagonal braces and a rubble stone plinth. The infill is mostly brick, with some panels rendered and whitewashed. The roof is covered with plain tiles from the 20th century, and there is a brick chimney at the rear. The house has two storeys and an attic, with one wide bay.
The front elevation includes one three-light horizontal sash window on each main floor, and there are traces of a blocked doorway to the right. The right gable has a two-light and a single-light 20th-century wooden casement, along with a 20th-century board door to the left and a lean-to timber verandah that extends across the end of the rear lean-to extension. The left gable end features a 20th-century three-light barred wooden casement on the ground floor. The gables are supported by queen strut trusses.
