Description

This former outbuilding, located in Hall Gate, Long Whatton, likely began as a cruck building probably dating to the 16th century. It incorporates an original cruck truss and two 17th-century post trusses. The structure was largely rebuilt in the 18th and 19th centuries, with some 20th-century alterations. The exterior is brick, with a corrugated asbestos roof and brick gable coping on the right end. It is composed of three bays; the left bay has a slightly lower roofline. The central bay is open-fronted, while the flanking bays each contain a board door. The cruck truss is visible in the right end wall of the left bay, along with original purlins. This truss has blades tied together by a saddle, with a ridge supported by a short king post and brick and plaster infill. The central bay features flanking post frames with inset principal trusses, one wall plate with a brace, and one original purlin with a wind-brace.
