Description

The milestone located outside Ravenstone Village Institute is positioned on the former Ashby to Leicester turnpike road and is likely from the 18th century, with an iron plate added in the 19th century.

This milestone is made of stone and features a cast-iron plate. It stands on the south side of Leicester Road and consists of a stone slab with a rounded top, topped by the cast-iron plate. The plate is painted black, with raised lettering in white that reads: TO/ ASHBY/ DELAZOUCH/ 4/ TO/ LEICESTER/ 13. Additionally, a triangulation benchmark is inscribed into the face of the milestone below the plate.
