Description
Nos 21 and 23 on Main Street are a pair of single-unit cottages, likely originating from the 16th century, though they have been altered and refronted later, suggesting they may have originally been a single dwelling. The exterior is rough-cast over brick, with signs of a box frame construction; two posts can be seen in the northwest wall and another in the center of the facade. The northwest wall features a coursed and squared projecting chimney, which has a stone dated 1641 with lettering in a recessed field. The facade now includes a dentilled eaves cornice, although the roof was formerly thatched. In the middle of the elevation, there are two doorways with plank doors set beneath segmental arched heads. The windows, which were added in the 20th century, are 12-light casements with segmental arched heads on the ground floor and flat heads in the dormers above.
