Wilson House

Wilson House is a house dating from the late 16th to early 17th century, with additions from the 19th century. The original central range has timber framing with curved braces, with whitewashed rendered infill on the ground floor and brick infill on the first floor. The rear wall is rendered and whitewashed, and some original timbers may be hidden behind it. The house has 20th-century tile roofs and whitewashed rendered chimneys.

The original structure comprises two bays, with a narrow extension to the left. A later gabled projection stands in front of the extension and partially covers the left bay. A mid- to late-19th-century block projects slightly to the right. The house has two storeys. The central bays contain 20th-century two-light wooden casement windows; the right bay has a pair of casements on each floor, with glazing bars in the upper half of each light. The 19th-century block to the right has similar casements, with three lights to the ground floor, two two-lights to the first floor, and a 20th-century glazed door to the left, featuring a semicircular fanlight. The gabled extension to the left has casements installed around 2004 and an exposed roof truss with ornamental brickwork in the gable.

Inside, timber framing is visible in the original left-end wall, and stop-chamfered floor beams are retained in the original right bay. On the ground floor, there’s a large fireplace to the right, with the base of a firehood surviving; the upper part of the hood has been removed and replaced with a small 19th-century stack.
