Description
Brook House is a house that was formerly a miller's residence and includes mill outbuildings. It is dated 1636 on a collar at the rear. The building is timber-framed, featuring diagonal braces and square panels of whitewashed plaster and brick infill. It has a whitewashed rubble stone plinth and a 20th-century blue tile roof, with whitewashed brick chimneys located on either side and between the right bays. The main structure is T-shaped, with a gabled cross wing that slightly projects to the left. Attached to the rear of the cross wing is a former outbuilding, while another former outbuilding, now serving as a kitchen, is set back at the right end of the front.
The house is two storeys high with a four-bay front. The early 20th-century wooden casements have glazing bars only at the top for the ground floor windows, while the upper windows feature glazing bars throughout. The left bay includes a two-storey half-timbered bay window with a gable and three-light casements. The second bay has a 20th-century seven-light bay window on the ground floor and a three-light casement above. The third bay contains two-light windows, with the lower window in a blocked doorway. The right bay has a three-light and a single-light casement on the ground floor. At the right end, there is a 20th-century flat-roofed lobby with a rear entry. The rear side of the cross wing features a 20th-century verandah and a small overhanging first-floor extension at the angle. Inside, there are some chamfered spine beams with tongue stops, but no original fireplaces remain.
