Description
The pedestal with the statue of Perseus, created around 1700 by Jan van Nost, is located in Melbourne Hall Gardens. It was part of a French-style garden designed by the Royal Gardeners to Queen Anne, London and Wise, for Thomas Coke of Melbourne Hall. The structure is made of stone and lead, featuring a panelled stone pedestal on a wide square plinth. The life-size figure of Perseus is depicted holding Medusa's head and is dressed in Roman-style armour, complete with winged sandals and a helmet. This pedestal is included in the Derbyshire Historic Gardens Register at Grade I.
