Description

Nos. 59 and 61 Bondgate is a house, which was formerly part of a shop, dating from the late 16th to 17th century, with an early 19th-century shop extension added to the front of the left bay. The building has been refurbished in the 20th century. It features a timber frame with colourwashed brick and render infill on a colourwashed stone base. The original section has a pantiled roof and a brick chimney located between the right bays. The 19th-century extension is made of colourwashed brick and has a hipped slate roof.

The structure is one and a half storeys tall and includes a cellar, consisting of three bays. The right bays, which have exposed framing at the front, contain irregular 20th-century wooden casements. The right bay features a two-light casement on the ground floor and a cellar window, while the centre bay has a three-light casement on the ground floor, with the roof raised over a two-light window above, and a 20th-century door to the left. There is an exposed truss and a similar casement in the right gable.

The 19th-century projection in front of the left bay is two full storeys tall with a basement, featuring 20th-century barred wooden windows with opening top lights. Metal steps lead up to a first-floor door, which is six-panelled and flanked by bowed windows, all of which are a 20th-century renewal of a former 19th-century shop front that included a frieze and cornice.
