Description

Two houses, dating to circa 1830, incorporating a former slaughterhouse and basket-weaving workshop, and representing a remodelling of an earlier building. The main block is rendered and whitewashed, with moulded eaves, a hipped slate roof and flanking brick chimneys. It has three storeys and three bays, featuring four-pane sashes, with the lower left window altered to three panes around 1900. A central flush-panelled door is set within a fine wooden doorcase, painted blue and featuring reeded half-columns with round reeded capitals, a reeded frieze, and a simple wooden hood. A first-floor sash window was inserted in the 20th century to the left, along with a 20th-century door and doorcase incorporating pilaster strips and an open pediment. Small two-storey extensions are positioned to either side of the main block; the right-hand extension has a single-light window and a lean-to hood over a 20th-century door, while the left-hand extension features a 20th-century bowed wooden oriel to the ground floor and a 20th-century two-light casement above. A lower two-storey 19th-century wing of whitewashed brick, with a 20th-century tile roof, is located at the left end and features three bays of irregular openings. The ground floor here has 20th-century garage doors to the left, a three-light wooden casement to the centre, and a 20th-century door to the right. The upper storey has a small blocked roundel to the left and horizontal sashes, three-light to the centre and two-light to the right. Inside, a first-floor room to the left of the main block has reeded plaster surrounds to the ceiling panels.
