Description
No. 41 Borough Street is a house and shop dating from the late 18th century, featuring a 20th-century shopfront on the left side of the ground floor. The building has a well-preserved red brick façade with a colourwashed stone plinth, moulded eaves, and window dressings. It has a 20th-century slate roof and stands three storeys tall with three bays. The windows are boxed 3-pane sashes with painted stone sills, voussoir heads, and triple keyblocks, while the second-floor windows are square. The ground floor on the left has been altered for the shopfront. The central entrance features a six-panelled door with a semi-circular fanlight, set within a doorcase made of painted stone or render. This doorcase includes Doric pilasters and an open pediment above a voussoir arch. There is a boot-scraper to the right of the door and a Phoenix fire insurance plaque. At the rear, there is a brick wing that was formerly an outbuilding and shows traces of blocked vent slits.
