Description

These buildings at 61 and 63 Borough Street, Castle Donington, originated as two cottages in the 15th and 16th centuries. A cruck truss is located within the central partition wall. The structures were largely rebuilt in the early to mid-19th century, with some 20th-century alterations. They are constructed of colourwashed brick, with dentil eaves and 20th-century tile roofs. A central, T-shaped chimney is rendered.

The taller left bay has a 20th-century shop window on the ground floor, a three-pane sash window above, and a 20th-century glazed door with a segmental head. The lower right bay features 20th-century wooden casements and a 20th-century glazed door, all with 19th-century segmental heads.

Inside, the cruck truss displays one blade largely concealed. Timber studs are visible in the wall below, along with stop-chamfered spine beams and a lintel of a blocked fireplace.
