Description

Laburnum Cottage and Post Office Farmhouse is a pair of houses that were formerly a post office and a dwelling, likely built in the 18th century and raised and re-fronted around 1800. The buildings are constructed of red brick with a slate roof and feature brick ridge stacks, forming an L shape.

The structure is three stories tall with a two-window range. On the left side, there is a 20th-century door with a moulded wood surround, and to the right of the door, there is a two-light casement window on the ground floor, both with segmental-arched heads, along with a bowed shop window at the far right. The first and second floors have two-light casement windows, with the first-floor windows featuring segmental-arched heads and the second-floor windows having brick lintels. The building has a chamfered ironstone plinth and stepped brick eaves.

To the left, there is a single-storey extension with a slate roof and a bowed shop window. The right side elevation has a pair of similar bowed windows on the ground floor flanking a 20th-century part-glazed door with a straight hood supported by brackets. Inside the Post Office Farmhouse, there are two open fireplaces with chamfered bressumers, one of which has a timber crook inside. The building also features chamfered spine beams and joists.
