Description
Nos 12 and 14 on Church Street are late 18th century to early 19th century buildings featuring a red brick facade with a stuccoed plinth and a well-crafted moulded eaves cornice. The roofs are covered with slates, and the buildings stand two storeys tall. The first floor has three windows with modern casements, while the ground floor features barred casements. The central entrance has a round arched door with a simple ornamented radial fanlight and six panels, framed by an early 19th century style doorcase with a moulded architrave and steps leading up to it. The adjoining No 14 to the south has an early 19th century painted brick facade, also two storeys high, with one early 19th century bay shop window that includes glazing bars, a cornice, and pilasters. Nos 12 to 18, along with the western workshop and garden wall at No 18, form a group with the rear wing of The Grapes Inn, Market Place, and The Parish Church of St Mary. Nos 6 and 8 are of local interest, along with the western workshop and garden wall at No 18.
