Description

Holmeleigh is a late 18th-century and early 19th-century house, with later 19th-century alterations. The house is constructed of red brick with a pantiled roof. It is two storeys high and originally had two windows and a central door. A canted bay window has been added to the ground floor on the south side; its sashes have glazing bars, while the other sashes are generally unbarred. The six-panelled front door has a rectangular fanlight, and is set within a doorcase featuring pilasters and a flat, bracketed hood. A later, gabled two-storey section with one window has been added to the north side, with late 19th-century sash windows.

Holmeleigh forms a group with numbers 1 to 7 Church Terrace, a small building in the north-west angle of the churchyard, the Gregory and Hughs Tomb, lamps in the churchyard, the building to the east of No 13 Church Street, No 18 Church Street, the western workshop and garden wall at No 18, and the Parish Church. The small building in the north-west angle and No 2, and the western workshop and garden wall at No 18 are considered of local interest.
