Description

No. 23 Main Road is a former inn that later became a public house, dating from the late 18th century and altered around 1900. The building is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and features a hipped slate roof with brick lateral and ridge stacks. It has a double-depth plan and a three-window range.

The central entrance consists of a six-pane double-leaf door with a fanlight above, adorned with scrolled spandrels and a moulded wood surround, along with a frieze that has arcaded fluting. To the left of the door is a round window, and there is a porch situated between bay windows, all covered by a continuous tiled roof. The first floor has 16-pane sash windows on the left and right, and a 12-pane sash window in the center, all featuring gauged brick flat-arched heads. The second floor has eight-pane sashes on either side of the central six-pane sash, with flat-arched heads. The central bay of the building slightly projects forward.

Additional architectural details include a rendered plinth, stone storey bands, coved wood eaves, and a moulded wood eaves cornice. To the left, there is a two-storey, two-window extension made of painted brick.
