Description

Gateway Cottage is a house located on the south side of Waltham High Street, dating from the mid to late 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed of coursed limestone rubble and features a reed thatch roof with a brick ridge stack. It has a two-unit plan and stands two storeys tall with an attic, presenting a two-window range.

The entrance is marked by a 20th-century door positioned to the far left, which is set beneath a stone lintel and accessed by four stone steps. The windows exhibit irregular glazing, consisting of 1- and 2-light 20th-century casement windows with wooden lintels, except for the ground floor window on the far left, which retains chamfered stone jambs and a lintel from a former stone mullion window. The building also has quoins and a pair of dormer windows.
