Description
Church Cottage is a house located in Hanborough, dating from the 18th century and remodeled in the late 19th century. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble and features a gabled stone slate roof with brick end stacks. The building has a one-unit plan, stands two storeys high with an attic, and has a two-window range. A long timber lintel with chamfering is positioned over the central plank door, flanked by three-light casements that include iron opening lights. On the first floor, there are similar casements with chamfered timber lintels, and a 20th-century roof dormer is present. At the rear, there is a late 19th-century outshut. Inside, the cottage features a late 19th-century fireplace and chamfered beams, as well as winder stairs. A datestone inscribed with "T.W./1893" indicates the late 19th-century rebuilding, and some machine-cut quoins from this period can be seen, although the house notably retains its 18th-century appearance. The property is included for its group value.
