Description

Rectory Farmhouse is a mid-to-late 16th-century farmhouse, later altered in the 17th and early 18th centuries, with an additional wing probably from the early 18th century. A further wing was altered and possibly shortened in the 1860s. The building is constructed of coursed limestone rubble, with gabled stone slate roofs. It has 17th-century end stacks, one of stone finished in brick to the right, and a brick end stack to the left. The farmhouse follows an L-shaped plan, with a wing attached to the left of the older range. It is two storeys high, with an attic storey to the left, and has a three-window facade to the front. A 20th-century door is located adjoining the right wing, as is a 20th-century porch and verandah. The windows include 19th-century eight-pane sashes and a mid-19th-century French window, with timber lintels above. The right side wall is two storeys high and features 19th-century casement windows. A 19th-century service extension is attached to the rear. The right-hand range has very thick walls; a 16th-century blacked, pointed-arch doorway is on the first floor, to the left, along with 17th-century stop-chamfered beams and collar trusses with butt purlins. A mid-19th-century straight-flight staircase is also present. The building possesses group value.
